There is no doubt that the DePaul University’s University Center for Writing-based Learning (UCWbL)is a valuable resource for students in writing-intensive secondary education programs. Nor is there doubt that DePaul University’s Writing Fellows program, while still in its infancy, has great potential to help student writers in two respects; First, the Fellows program can help students become better academic writers, and second, the Fellows program can market UCWbL to a broader audience that might otherwise not be aware of ways in which they can take advantage of Writing Center resources.
Though Writing Fellows programs have been successfully embraced and integrated throughout Writing Centers across the American University system, it seems that little has been done to target adult students. It is hoped that, with the development of this pilot program, DePaul will establish itself as on the forefront of creating integrative, flexible peer tutor programs through UCWbL that can be replicated and applied to more and more schools at DePaul. Ultimately, this research could possibly serve to help other University Writing Centers develop their own outreach programs to adult students.
This is the premise for Jill Anderson's Advanced Project....
